Currently, 3 world #Weightlifting records are held by performing the #squatjerk. But even if you don't use it for competition, in #chineseweightlifting it still has carry over to the jerk while also training the same motor pattern to catch a #snatch it clean. So today we provide some tips to show you how to perform it effectively. .
1️⃣ When standing, the barbell is over the ankle bone  so if you move away from this line then it will be more difficult to drive the bar upward. Amateurs tend to dip in ways that move away from this line so tag a friend to watch your bar path.
.
2️⃣ During the dip, use your glutes to turn the knees out and keep them aligned with the feet. This will allow you to drop smoothly while minimize horizontal forces. Additionally, this will set you up to maximize vertical force. Many amateurs tend to let the knees cave in or move forward which causes them to lose balance or limit their ability to push quickly.

3️⃣ In order to create enough room to catch, you need to reach full extension just as in the #splitjerk. Many amateurs are too worried about the catch, so they rush under the bar without extending fully, but this strategy makes the bar fall sooner and makes the catch more difficult.
.
4️⃣ During the catch, you should look down and turn your arms inward. This will allow you to stop the backward force of the barbell, create torque through the am and wrist, and ensure that the bar mainly supported by the back muscles rather than arms and shoulders.
.
🅱️ The most important part of the #squat jerk is dropping comfortably into the #overheadsquat. We recommend you work on your strength, mobility, and flexibility to improve your deep #squats. In the meantime you can catch at #quartersquat or half squat position. If you need help with your stability, check out #mastrength wrist wraps and belts!

Some legendary lifting! #LuXiaojun and Li Dayin both missed their first 165kg #snatch attempts. Xiaojun made his second attempt at the same weight while Dayin made 166kg.  Then Xiaojun came out with 171kg in his third attempt while Dayin followed and made the same weight. This gave #Xiaojun the gold in the snatch but tied going into the #cleanandjerk.

However, Lu's back was uncomfortable during the break, forcing a conservative 191kg opener. Afterwards, his back was hurting, forcing him to lie down and ice it. Meanwhile Li Dayin opened with 198kg with an easy #powerjerk.
.
While everyone else was finishing their lifts, Lu rested most of the competition and took a 14kg jump for his second attempt to beat Li Dayin's #worldrecord by 1kg. However this taxing lift further aggravated his back. Li Dayin came out with 206kg for his second attempt to take back his record by 1kg, however he missed the jerk and had to make it on his third attempt, setting a new total record.

At this point all seemed lost but Lu has "力敵千军" written on his shoes, meaning "the strength to defeat a thousand enemies." With one attempt left, Xiaojun took 207kg and set ANOTHER world record total and a world record in the clean and jerk with a perfect #squatjerk! This secured his 5th senior world title and showed why he wrote this mantra. Amazing battle and #chineseweightlifting performance, 恭喜恭喜小军!

Do you have trouble standing up from a heavy #cleanandjerk or #frontsquat? If your hips keep rising even if your back is straight, then you might lack strength and coordination out of the bottom
.
In #China, athletes use paused front #squats to remove the support from the rebound and focus on building strength and coordination in the bottom position. Keep in mind the following points:
.
1️⃣ Position the barbell over the groove of the deltoids and over the clavicle. This is the most stable position because forcing the elbows higher can cause your back to round and which makes it harder to stand up straight. .
2️⃣ Instead, push the elbows and chest out throughout the #squat to help keep the back more straight.
.
3️⃣ Additionally, use your external hip rotators to push the knees out and create enough space for your to sit down while keeping your hips as close to your torso as possible. When done correctly, your foot, shin, knee, and thigh will be aligned.
.
4️⃣ Tag a friend to watch you from the side and make sure that your barbell is aligned over the midfoot and that it moves vertically over that point. You partner can cue you to stop at the spot where your position changes and then you can adjust to build muscle memory.
.
🅱️ It is difficult to hold your breath through a long pause and still maintain position. So athletes will usually sip the air on the way down, and then hold their breath right before the bottom to brace. This allows them to help maintain a straight back during the ascent and lift the hips and torso together. If you need help bracing, try using a #weightlifting belt from the Ma Strength store.

- Going into each training session with a “deliberate” focus and effort. - Plan and sacrifice to have a little extra time around your training sessions to sharpen up movement patterns, weakness skill sets, and to mend any aches and pains your body has. - If your nutrition and sleep aren’t where they should be make it a priority TODAY to get them where they need to be👊🏻 - Begin to move with purpose through transitions. - Practice CrossFit Open standards. - Practice not letting a “no rep” hinder your performance. - If you are thinking about purchasing any new equipment or supplements buy them now so they feel “normal” to you through the Open workouts. - Win the mornings! Create and stick to a morning routine. - Lastly... Dial in your mental muscle. Big Daddy Thickshake @davidobson_ in a 2 week transition phase nailing a mammoth 152.5kg single. This week he’s also taken 245kg in the squat and 235kg in the deadlift.

David is coming into his comp block for the Melbourne Open in October in the 105s. This will be his only competition between Junior Nationals 2019 and Junior Nationals 2020. The common advice for newer lifters is to build confidence on the platform in your earlier years in the sport by competing upwards of 3-4 times per year. The harsh reality is, progress in strength is only built with consistent, back to back training phases with progressive volume and intensity. Injecting comps every 3-4 months in an effort to build ‘platform confidence’ only takes time away for the development of strength and skill in training. Use your training to prepare you for competition and you comps to express your hard earned strength. Confidence on the platform comes with knowing you are a better lifter.

David is 21, has only competed twice and gone 9/9 in both comps, composed and ready. He will mirror these performances in October because his training is what makes him prepared.
