Connect your STEM content to the local community. Lean more on the Actua exchange: http://exchange.actua.ca/project-exchange/codemakers-community-mapping-10-20-30 This 3-part mapping exercise is intended to be completed over a week of camp. At the beginning of the camp week, campers participate in Community Mapping 1.0 where they map their community, their homes, and their interests and questions. Following each activity of the camp week, campers participate in Community Mapping 2.0 in which they reflect on what they have learned and map the new careers and concepts they have discovered. On the last day of camp, campers map their goals for the future in the Community mapping 3.0 exercise using a digital building software called Sketch Up. This week long reflection and debrief activity is ideal for all ages of participants. Using group reflection, all youth will explore cultural ways of knowing and integration of different types of knowledge; while improving their collaboration and teamwork, perspective taking and reflection skills, and improving their appreciation of diversity, citizenship, and self-efficacy.
